"At first I was scared by the amount of remixes that came in, we were amazed there were over 1000! But after listening to them all I'm amazed at the quality level of many of the entries. I'm excited to finally announce the winners, but even more excited to play them out at my next gig!" - Richie Hawtin
After months of listening to every single last one of the Plastikman 'Ask Yourself' Remix Competition entries, Richie Hawtin has picked his best - which includes ONE winner, FIVE runners-up and 20 special mentions who stood out from the crowd and produced something innovative and creative.
Well done people, you managed to scare Plastikman! Anyway, onto the business end of stuff, and what you're REALLY here for: the WINNERS.
Insert minimal drum-roll...
In first place: Oblique Industries (AUS) with his '12-step remix' of 'Ask Yourself'.
What a winner. Check out an exclusive interview with winner Oblique Industries on Facebook.com/burn. He'll be taking home €2,500 worth of audio and music technology vouchers from tech gods AVID and SoundCloud. In addition to that, his track will feature on a digital version of Plastikman's Arkives, entitled Replikants Burn, which also features the runners-up and special mentions remixes. Naturally, Oblique also receives the beaming pride that comes from being personally selected by Richie Hawtin from over 1,300 entrants to win the Burn Studios remix competition.
And now, a bit about the winner: "Oblique Industries is Ryan Schofield, who started the project in 2001 in Melbourne. After years of performing in rock bands, Ryan was drawn to the electronic music scene, and from the start combined organic instruments with synths, samplers and drum machines, mischevously describing his music as "eclectic electronica" or "eclectronica".
As well as releases on his self-managed label, Oh-One Records, Ryan has had remixes out on France's Bus Records and Finland's Planetaria Recordings and, now, as a winner of the Burn Studios Plastikman remix competition, Minus. Ryan also hosts a radio show on Melbourne Radio Station PBS FM".
Richie also selected five runners-up (click here to read their full bios), who receive an M-Audio Torq MixLab DJ kit, a Pro Tools Recording Software Package and a SoundCloud lite account. Congrats. The five who were chosen are as follows and in no particular order...
